Walmart 2030: What Brands Need to Know Now

Two months ago Walmart welcomed John Furner as their new CEO.

He brings 30+ years inside the company and most recently led Walmart U.S.

Looking toward 2030, here’s what we’re watching and what it means if you’re selling (or considering selling) on Walmart Marketplace.

1. Walmart becomes “everywhere commerce”

AI, voice, in-app, and in-store experiences will continue to blend together. Customers won’t think in channels. They’ll just think “Walmart.”

What this means for brands:
The way customers are discovering products is changing.

Your product data, attributes, and use cases need to be clear and structured so Walmart’s systems can surface your products in more places.

2. Associate-led innovation expands

Walmart has always been a promote from within company. Furner has emphasized trusting the people closest to the customer.

The best ideas don’t come from the top. They come from the store (and fulfillment center) floor.

What this means for brands:
Execution will keep improving.

Store ops, fulfillment, and customer experience will continue to get better. The gap between good and great execution on the platform will widen.

3. Stores become experience and logistics hubs

Walmart stores are becoming places to discover products, pickup and return orders, and last mile fulfillment hubs.

What this means for brands:
Speed wins.

Programs like WFS and inventory transfer services directly impact conversion, visibility, and growth.

If your product isn’t positioned to deliver in under two days, you’re at a disadvantage.

4. Perception catches up to execution

Walmart already reaches every generation.

As digital innovation, delivery speed, and assortment improve, public perception will start to reflect what’s already operationally true.

What this means for brands:
More demand is coming.

The brands that invest early in doing it right will have an advantage as more competition enters.

Where this goes

The brands that win on Walmart over the next 5 years will have great products AND

  • Clean, structured listings
  • Fast, reliable fulfillment and
  • Competitive pricing

At SJK, we help brands unlock Walmart as a growth channel by handling the execution end to end.

If Walmart is on your roadmap for 2026 and beyond, let’s connect.
